AllotmentsThe Parish Council’s allotment site is at Alexandra Road, Swallownest, and has 55 allotment gardens.

All allotments are currently fully occupied, but if anyone is interested in cultivating an allotment there name could be added to the ‘waiting list’ should any become vacant.
Allotment rents run from 1 October to 30 September. From October 2016 the rent will be £20 and is reviewed annually.

AllotmentsThere is a Swallownest Allotment Association which was formed by a group of Tenants to assist then in such areas as bulk purchase of seeds and other items to minimise costs. It also helps people to be self-sufficient in food production together with creating a self-help community spirit.

The Association is supported by the Parish Council who has awarded several grants to assist with its running costs and also refurbishment of a safe and secure building to store supplies of seeds etc.
A Tenancy Agreement is in force outlining the Parish Council’s Terms and Conditions of use which is signed by both the Parish Council and Tenant prior to occupancy. (See below)

(a) The Tenant shall keep the Allotment Garden in a clean and good condition and properly cultivated.
(b) The Tenant shall not cause any nuisance or annoyance to the occupier of any other Allotment Garden, or obstruct any path or access set out by the Council for the use of the occupiers of the Allotment Garden adjacent garage site plots, or adjacent dwellings.
(c) No livestock or poultry of any kind shall be kept upon the Allotment Garden other than reasonable numbers of hens or rabbits for tenants’ own domestic consumption.
(d) No dog shall be brought into or kept in the area of the Allotments by the tenant or by anyone acting with his authority or approval.
(e) The Tenant shall not underlet, assign or part with the possession of the Allotment Garden or any part thereof.
(f) The use of hose pipes is prohibited other than for filling water containers.
(g) The Tenant shall not, without the written consent of the Council, cut or prune any timber or other trees, or take, sell, or carry away any mineral, gravel, sand or clay.
(h) The Tenant shall cultivate the Allotment Garden for, and shall use it only for, the production of fruit, vegetables and flowers for domestic consumption by himself and his family.
(i) The Tenant shall obtain the written consent of the Council before erecting any building on the Allotment Garden.
(j) The Council reserves the right to increase the annual rent by giving three months’ notice, in writing, to the Tenant.
(k) The Tenant shall permit the inspection at all reasonable times of the Allotment Garden by any officer of the Council.
(l) The tenancy may be terminated by either party to this Agreement serving on the other not less than twelve months’ written notice to quit, expiring on or before the 6th day of April or on or after the 29th day of September in any year.
